Liam Ferguson

Product designer & developer

I design digital products and get them built.

I started out designing and building websites, then spent several years working on B2B ecommerce software. At Thrive, I’ve worked with engineering teams on an employee communications app and its web admin tools, from defining features to reviewing the finished build. I recently moved to Germany and am looking for my next product design role here.

Making chat useful for frontline teams

Chat brought direct, familiar communication into the employee app while respecting the controls organisations need.

The challenge

Frontline employees needed a fast way to ask questions and coordinate work. Administrators also needed clear controls around who could start conversations and how people could be reached.

Designing the conversation

I mapped the end-to-end flow across the employee app and CMS: starting a chat, finding colleagues, handling unread messages and understanding when a conversation is unavailable.

Designed for the real world

The interface uses familiar messaging patterns, large touch targets and resilient states for intermittent connectivity. It feels immediate without becoming another complex collaboration tool.
